Between perks, ammo, guns and enemies new Vegas combat is so much better than 4 despite being in an outdated engine version. Imagine if Bethesda built the Vegas strip. Imagine if Bethesda gave the new Vegas devs the same budget and engine improvements that fallout 4 had, this is like comparing a car from 60 years ago with a car made today.
In 3 even the towns didn't really feel safe, like a gang of super mutants could just run through that bugger at any time. New Vegas feels more like a war torn 3rd world country than a post apocalyptic wasteland. Lastly Fallout 3 was a real 'point in a direction and go' type of map, whereas NV really really wants you to stay on the roads.
And the result is a game that, whilst nowhere near perfect, is in my opinion superior to Fallout 3 in every way. And Fallout 3 is miles better than Fallout 4. Fallout 1 & 2 are good, but extremely dated at this point. Fallout 76 doesn't even warrant discussion. So New Vegas is basically the defacto best Fallout game.
NV is more of a "Fallout" game than FO3: New Vegas was made by a lot of the same people who made Fallout 1 and 2, and was based on notes from the original version of Fallout 3 (the one that got cancelled before Bethesda bought the property and started over from scratch).
I mean Obviously Fallout 76 does away with it being modern and on a new engine, pffft, why even make this dumb threads, even dumber than the 3 is better than NV. Why are you such a hater. It's a amazing game. The landscape technology, rendering and lighting is amazing and IT'S 4 TIMES THE SIZE OF FALLOUT 4!
The writing in Fallout 4 is atrocious, it's bland and shallow and so are the characters. Yep. New Vegas has one thing that Bethesda does not: Chris Avellone. There isn't anyone better at designing roleplaying games with quality writing then CA. Hands down that is definitely one thing Fallout 4 does NOT do better.
