The 1.6 and 1.8 are basically identical when it comes to reliability. As long as you're not trying to get 200 hp per liter, they can be quite reliable. The one thing I would recommend is Inconel studs, as really hard track use can see the stainless ones cry uncle. You only need a healthy stock engine. That's what's in Igor.
The reliability of a Miata makes ownership trivial compared with keeping a fussy British roadster. Hagerty content manager Joe DeMatio owns this ’95 Miata, and it has seen over 200,000 miles with minimal upkeep. The cars are not without their problems, however. Early 1.6-liter engines can have issues with the crankshaft keyway.

This nitrous system adds 250 hp. Not good for tires but think about it. a superlite car with 300+ hp. DO not put this on a miata that has not been designed for it.

In a naturally-aspirated state (without a turbocharger) the Miata’s inline-four runs optimally with a 2.25” diameter exhaust installed. A larger diameter exhaust won’t necessarily hurt performance (unless you go for 2.5″ or more in diameter), but you won’t see a boost in horsepower or torque with anything larger.
Oh another thing: you will definitely need a differential from a 1.8 liter car to hold that much power. So if you keep your 1.6, plan on replacing the driveshaft, differential, and rear axle shafts. The 1.6 differential is dinky as fuck and often grenades under stock power, let alone double stock power.
According to the build specs on YouTube, this engine makes 172 horses from 1.6 liters at an 11.3:1 compression ratio. The ITBs were borrowed from Toyota's 4AGE inline-four ( another engine that
