Aerodynamic styling penned by Bruno Sacco signalled a new look that would filter its way down the entire range, and showed that Mercedes-Benz was not about to lose its lead in its sector of the marketplace.

Im September 1981 stellte Mercedes die Coupé -Variante (C 126) der Baureihe 126 auf der IAA in Frankfurt als Nachfolger des C 107 vor. Die Produktion endete offiziell im Oktober 1991.
